Now that I am more "mature" with the cloth diapers, I can explain better the different types. With a little help from clothnappyinfo:
- Pocket: Pocket nappies have a waterproof outside layer, a staydry inside layer and in between the two is a pocket into which you can place absorbent inserts to soak up urine.
- These types of nappy are a one use nappy, meaning that once they are wet/soiled they must be washed before they are used again.
- With pocket nappies, you can add as many inserts as you need to tailor the absorbency level to your baby’s needs. Inserts are sometimes sold separately to the nappy so be careful to check this before you buy.
- All-in-one: All in one (AIO) nappies have a waterproof outside layer, a staydry inside layer and the absorbent inserts are sewn in between the two.
- All in one (AIO) nappies have a waterproof outside layer, a staydry inside layer and the absorbent inserts are sewn in between the two.
- These nappies are a one use nappy, meaning that once they are wet/soiled they must be washed before they are used again.
- All in two: All in two (AI2) nappies have a waterproof outside layer (the shell) and a snap in inside layer.
- These nappies can be used over and over again until the shell has become soiled. You will need to purchase several snap in inserts for this to be possible as the inserts themselves are one use only, meaning that once they are wet/soiled they must be washed before they are used again.
- Fitted: Fitted nappies have no waterproof outside layer so they require a waterproof cover. The outside layer is, instead, made of an extra layer of absorbent material. They have the usual staydry inside layer and the absorbent layers are sewn into the core of the nappy.
- These nappies are a one use nappy, meaning that once they are wet/soiled they must be washed before they are used again.
- These nappies can have snap in inserts, pockets or even act as an all in one.
Flat/Prefold: Flat/Prefold nappies are a two part nappy system consisting of a square piece of fabric that you fold over and a wrap.
- The wrap can be used over and over until it becomes soiled, however the prefold squares are one use only, meaning that once they are wet/soiled they must be washed before they are used again.
- No more pins! Τhere are new ways to fasten the square fabric on the baby:
